Knesset committee advances bill allowing 12 to 14-year-olds to be imprisoned on terror charges

The Constitution, Law and Justice Committee of the Knesset approved the advancement of a bill that would allow minors aged 12 to 14-years-old convicted of manslaughter on terrorism grounds to be imprisoned.

In the proposed bill, a minor suspected of murder or attempted murder on the basis of terrorism will be subject to the same terms of detention as adults.

A representative of a parents organization against child detention was removed from the room because she was unable to answer the committee chairman's question about how much of the organization's funding comes from foreign entities.

A loud debate broke out towards the end of the discussion when a lawmaker – including Ofer Cassif – argued that a vote couldn't take place without the opportunity to ask questions. A coalition lawmaker ordered Cassif and another MK to be removed from the room.
